| KL Drill Competition | |

It was a day of much anticipation, of heart pounding moments. Hours of practice boils down to this very day, to this very moment. On the 21st of June, we had the KL State Drill Competition. 10th Kuala Lumpur Company sent in one junior team, and 2 senior teams for this competition. The day started off with all drill squad members gathering at Sri Sempurna for one last run through and for uniform inspection. After lunch and a word of prayer, off we went to MBS, home of 1st KL. The competition started with opening parade and singing of the Anchor song. After that, came the heart pounding moment, first with the drawing of lots, then with the uniform inspection, and on with the drill. A sudden cloud of seriousness dawned on the faces of all the competitors as the officers inspected their uniform, scrutinizing each and every part of it. With each mistake being pointed out to them, you could as if hear them cringing in pain as they realize marks were being deducted. The juniors were the first to do their drill sequence. Our junior squad, under the command of Daniel Ong, did an excellent job. With the sharp and loud voice of Daniel Ong, and the whole squad marching in sync and executing each move brilliantly, we knew we were in the running for the championship. Up next was the senior’s category. Here the competition was stiffer, with almost all the participating companies sending in two squads each. From the way each drill squad executed the sequence, it can be seen that much effort has been put into it, with countless of hours spent in practice and buckets of sweat and tears produced. Both our drill squads gave in their very best and I was very proud to watch as they performed. And towards the end of the competition, it started to rain, first with a drizzle, then it came pouring down, as if signifying the end of the competition. After managing to get everybody to the hall, as dry as possible, though most didn’t make it that way, the crowd were kept busy by our very own Mdm. Esther while the scores were being tabulated. Most were not paying attention as there was just too much excitement and anticipation in the air. Finally, the moment that everybody was waiting for arrived. The results were finally going to be announced after all the waiting. Our junior section was very successful and emerged as champions for their category, and our commander received the Best Commander Award. As for the senior section, our team A emerged as second runners up. All glory to God!!! Kudos to all the winners, and to those who were not so successful, never give up, and keep trying harder. |
