10thh Kuala Lumpur Expansion and Community Project

In the year 2007, in the month of October.. the officers met together for the 1st Strategic Planning Workshop held in Kajang Country Heights. As our organization was approaching 10 years old, we realized the need to re look and evaluate our current situation and result, and need to plan for the next phase of our growth. For we know that nothing stays stagnant, we either grow or deteriorate. It was time to organize or we agonize.

During this 3 days 2 nights workshop, we revisited our vision, mission and core values. One key issue discussed in length was that we need to EXPAND. Expand not just for the sake of big numbers but rather expand to reach out to the poor in the Klang Valley. This desire was motivated from the fact that God’s heart always reaches out to the poor and needy. He has said in His word that we should consider the poor, as stated in Proverbs 29:7.

So a goal was set. A 5 years’ plan to reach out to 200 children and youth from orphanages the vicinity of Klang Valley. Recruiting them to come under training and development of the Boys Brigade activities, FULLY SPONSOR BY 10TH KUALA LUMPUR COMPANY.

With simple childlike faith, we did our part with whatever resources we had by initiating certain ideas and plan; One of them being a fundraiser project. Of course, we were not sure how successful this fundraiser would be. We knew that we would need to raise quite a large amount of money as we were looking at providing for 200 children.

Yet, what pushed us forward was our belief that our God is the God who provides, and nothing is too big for Him. That was our reassurance. At that point in time, little did we know that the Lord would soon lead us to something way bigger beyond what we could ever imagine.

The opportune moment for our fund raising dinner came when we decided to make it as part of our company’s 10th anniversary celebration on May 10, 2008. By God’s grace and favor, we sold 53 tables, priced between RM 1,300 to RM 5,000. This included dinner and entertainment by a famous celebrity, Mr Gurmit Singh, well known for his character ‘Phua Chu Kang’.

The Lord had touched the hearts of Parents, Individual Supporters, Corporate Sponsors, and finally, our main Corporate Sponsor, Public Bank Berhad (Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Teh Hong Piow).The Dream of reaching out to 200 needy children over the next 5 years, became a reality when we saw how they gave so generously. We just stood in awe and saw The Lord’s own Hand of Provision upon our company. How Great is our God !

In fact, we were so grateful, when later, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Teh Hong Piow, invited us back again to receive another RM100,000 for our expansion project to the poor. Infact, Tan Sri, encouraged us, he said (quote)“ recruiting 40 members a year, x 5 years to reach 200 children is very achievable and not too ambitious” (unquote)..we took to heart what he said, and started to put this project in place. Thank you, Tan Sri.

We had now 14 children from Rumah Charis and 29 children from Rumah Sunbeam, making a total of 43 special children being train to achieve the objectives of the Boys’ Brigade, ie. training and disciplining members through 4 aspects : ie. Spiritual, Educational, Physical and Social. These children are fully sponsored in terms of membership fees, uniforms, uniform parts, camp fees, transportation, instruments, etc.

We need to constantly look to the Lord in prayer as we journey on with this ministry of touching lives and reaching out to this special group of children. We need passion, dedication, a lot of hard work and plenty of time (truly, it is a ministry that require sweat, tears and blood).
